Human rights are one of the core elements of the West's sense of morality and ethics. Human rights discourse underpins many of our moral claims and grounds our sense of right and wrong. Whether politicians are talking about housing or the environment, family life or working conditions, human rights are frequently invoked as the basis for action/change/preservation. But what are human rights? Where have they come from? Where are they going? We sat down with lawyer David McIlroy to ask these and many other questions that, as Christians, we might better understand our political culture and be able to positively contribute as a result.
